National Apprenticeship Week
We are proud to celebrate National Apprenticeship Week, which ran from Monday 9th to Friday 13th of February.
At Breheny Civil Engineering, we aren’t just completing projects; we are building a sustainable talent pipeline. With the UK construction industry requiring thousands of additional workers to meet upcoming demand, we are committed to closing the skills gap from the ground up.
Our apprenticeship programme offers high-impact pathways across the project lifecycle, from Estimating and Quantity Surveying to hands-on Groundworkers and Plant Operators.
We combine site experience with academic theory, ensuring vital technical knowledge isn't lost. As a family business, our people are important to us so we develop specialists who embody our safety standards and values from day one. The fresh perspectives offered by our apprentices help us adopt modern, digital engineering practices.
The success of our team is a collaborative effort. A massive shout-out to the institutions helping our apprentices thrive:
- Anglia Ruskin University, Chelmsford
- University of Suffolk
- London South Bank University
- Leeds College of Building

Bradley is one of our Plant Apprentices and attended the Suffolk New College Apprenticeship Fair recently as he wants to encourage others into the construction industry. He has been with Breheny since 2024 and says that "working for Breheny has helped me to come out of my shell and feel more confident in myself. Breheny have supported me all the way through my apprenticeship and being on sites with skilled workers give me the confidence in my learning and means that I know what I'm doing is right. I have been able to learn so much because help has been given without judgement and I feel like they want to encourage me to be the best I can."

Taslima is another Apprentice who joined us in August 2025 and said "Since starting my Civil Engineering degree apprenticeship at Breheny, I’ve learned so much about the civil engineering industry while balancing university alongside work. The support I’ve received from the team has made a huge difference, helping me grow in confidence and feel supported both academically and professionally. Having people who are always willing to guide, encourage and take the time to answer questions has really encouraged my curiosity for the industry and helped me develop skills for life."
At Breheny Civil Engineering we've seen the T level journey come full circle, and we want to celebrate two T level students who are at different stages of their journey.
A huge shout out to Kaira who completed her T Level in Design, surveying and planning with West Suffolk College and has now started her career with us as a Trainee Civil Engineer. Kaira wants to share her experience and said:
"Since I’ve been working for Breheny I have gained knowledge in different aspects of construction including engineering, foreman role and sub-agent role. I have gained so much confidence since working here and have progressed and developed so much more knowledge since doing my work placement along with my T-level course too. I am fortunate that when I came to do my work placement at Breheny for my T Level course I got offered a job at the end of the work placement period which I am highly grateful for. I am hugely appreciative that the team I work with helps me progress my skills daily in the different tasks I do."

Following in these footsteps is George who has shared his experience on his T level placement so far:
"Breheny is a great place to do your work experience if you’re looking into civil engineering as a career, they’ve helped me lots by letting me experience all the different jobs they offer, I am really enjoying it and would highly recommend it."
We are proud to be supporting T level industry placement as they are more than just work experience and help to give the students real-world skills and experience they need to thrive.
