Careers Fair - The Malling School
On Friday 3 July, Breheny Civil Engineering was proud to attend the The Malling School Careers Fair, giving Year 8 students a hands-on introduction to the exciting world of civil engineering and the diverse careers that help shape the UK’s infrastructure.
Representing Breheny were Emma Bates, Public Liaison Officer, and Adam Hood, Assistant Quantity Surveyor Degree Apprentice, who shared their own career journeys and explained how major infrastructure projects are planned, delivered and managed.
Students were introduced to the fascinating world of civil engineering through a lively presentation, exploring how roads, bridges, flood defences and other essential infrastructure impact our everyday lives. Adam also provided valuable insight into his degree apprenticeship, demonstrating how young people can gain real industry experience while earning a qualification.
The highlight of the morning was Breheny’s interactive Site Challenge Sweet Pong activity. Working in teams, students tackled real life engineering and construction challenges inspired by Breheny’s live projects, from protecting wildlife and diverting utilities to planning traffic management and solving site safety scenarios. The activity encouraged teamwork, communication and problem solving while showcasing the huge variety of careers available across the construction industry.
Throughout the event, it was fantastic to see so many students asking questions about apprenticeships, career pathways and what it is really like to work on major infrastructure projects.
At Breheny, we are passionate about inspiring the next generation and creating meaningful social value within the communities where we work. We would like to thank The Malling School for inviting us to take part, and we look forward to continuing to engage with local schools to showcase the rewarding opportunities available within civil engineering.
