Deal & Walmer Rock Groynes

Client: Dover District Council

We were appointed by Dover District Council to Install rock groynes, recharge the beach and install new groyne markers.

The project installed 6000 Tonnes of rock armour. All of the rock armour was delivered by ship from Cornwall directly to the beach and unloaded at high tide to locations required, we retrieved the rocks at low tide to place them at the correctly designed location. Part of the site (beach) was vegetated shingle which had to be protected from delivery vehicles. All of the plant used by the sea had biodegradable oils, the fuel tanks were sited over 200 metres away from the sea to prevent any risk of contamination.

The beach recharge element of the project used 45,000 cubic metres of rock at Walmer and 30,000 cubic metres of rock armour at Deal.
