John Breheny
Chairman
I was born into the industry and have been involved with the company from an early age. I have been Chair for over 25 years and I am proud of what our great team of people have achieved. Outside of business, I love spending time with my family and enjoy reading, food and concerts.
Simon Burnside
Joint Managing Director
I joined Breheny in 1999 and progressed in the business through Managing Estimator and Pre-Contract Director roles prior to becoming Joint Managing Director in 2020. As Joint Managing Director, I am responsible for shaping the strategic direction of the business. Under my leadership, the company continues to strengthen its position within the industry, successfully delivering major civil engineering projects across the UK. My free time is spent with family, walking my dogs and travelling the world.
Andrew Fleming
Joint Managing Director
I have worked in the Commercial Construction arena for my whole career, becoming Joint Managing Director of Breheny Civil Engineering in 2020. Professionally I’m driven by people and numbers, with my family and sports being the passion for everything else in my life.
Shums Aziz
Finance Director
I joined Breheny’s in the summer of 1990 as a cost clerk. I was delighted to be appointed to the board of the Breheny Group in July 2024, as the Company Secretary. It is a challenging and exciting role. My interests outside of work are football, cooking, music, travel and art.
Mark Burrows
Regional Commercial Director
I joined Breheny in 1996 as an apprentice/trainee estimator and have worked in many different roles within the business during my career. I loved and thrived at Breheny from the moment I joined, with its beautiful mix of challenging varied projects, friendly colleagues, and a true family feel. Weekends are spent with my wife and two children, golf and any racket sport going!
Peter Coleman
Estimating Director
I joined Breheny in October 1978 as a Trainee Quantity Surveyor, over time carrying out Quantity Surveying and Estimating roles. I then progressed to Estimating Director, helping to develop the next generation of Estimators for future challenges. Married (my wife says that I married Breheny before her) with 2 grown up children, I’m now trying to fit in travelling and grandparent duties.
Daniel Coulson
Regional Estimating Director
During a career spanning more than 30 years at Breheny, I have progressed from Trainee Buyer to Estimating Director. Outside of work, I enjoy travelling, football, padel and golf – though I am more comfortable with a racket than a club.
Gary Fowler
Contracts Director
I have over 22 years’ experience at Breheny Civil Engineering, rising from General Labourer to Contracts Director. Outside work, I centre my life on my two children. I enjoy fitness travel, and quality time with family and friends. A lifelong Sunderland fan, I often follow the Black Cats when possible.
Joe Victory
Regional Commercial Director
I joined Breheny as a Quantity Surveyor in 2010 and advanced through various commercial roles. In 2020, I became Regional Commercial Director, having previously been responsible for the Northern and Central areas. This followed my work leading the Northern hub’s growth and assuming Central region responsibility in 2019. Outside of work, I have been with my partner since 2005, and we have two children together. As a keen sports enthusiast, I enjoy playing golf and cricket, as well as following a wide range of sporting events.
